Evenley Gardening Society

Eligibility for membership is confined to the residents of Evenley, Brackley and the surrounding villages. The current annual subscription is £3 per household or £1.50 for a single household where one person lives alone. There is a meeting charge of £1 which includes tea or coffee and biscuits.

Meetings are held in the Village Hall on the third Tuesday of each month, beginning at 8 pm, except for June, July and August when evening visits are arranged to local gardens and garden centres.

Member benefits include day excursions to interesting destinations. This year we have already been to Cambridge where we chartered a riverboat, with lunch served on board, to Waterbeach where the coach collected us and took us on to Anglesey Abbey, the National Trust property. In July we travelled to Wisbech for a tour of the local brewery, established in 1795, which has its own four acre gardens including a maze. There was also the opportunity to visit the Wisbech Rose Fair which is claimed to be one of England's finest flower festivals.

Other membership benefits include the annual plant sale, a barbecue and a special Christmas meeting. There is also the opportunity to order discounted seeds and to obtain a discount at some local nurseries. Members also receive a regular newsletter.

Speakers later this year include Mrs Hazel Kaye on Gardens of East Midlands (September 15th), our President, Janet Cropley, on Plants for Droughts (October 21st) and Benjamin Smith on a Low Maintenance Garden (November 18th).
