Aspects of Evenley

This book tells the story of Evenley, a small village in Northamptonshire, from pre-Roman times to the present day. It shows how it has developed over time, has been shaped by its past and finishes with a suggested walk around the village.

Tales of Evenley

This new book gives two views of village life from very different aspects.  Cicely Spencer describes her life at the Old Manor from 1939 to 1999.  Bill Buggins's memoir takes a broader perspective of the changes brought on by two world wars, industrialisation, communications and politics over the last century.

Characters of Evenley – Under development

The Residents Association has decided to work towards a third book about Evenley.
Its working title is ‘Characters of Evenley’ and its purpose will be to record the development of Evenley from the Second World War until the present day. What we hope to record is the formation and growth of the Organisations (the Parish Council, Church, Shop, Post Office, Village Hall, Red Lion etc.), Clubs, Societies and People who made Evenley as it is today.
Our first and most urgent job is to record the memories of people, particularly those who have been in the village in the earlier part of that period so that they are not lost. This will take some time and it will also be very complex fitting all the stories and institutions together, so we do not envisage publishing, even if all goes well, before the autumn of 2010.
We hope this book will benefit the whole village by recording our recent history and the people who made it. So, if you, or anyone you know, has any relevant information to note it down and drop it in at No 2 The Green, e-mail it or contact us to have your memories tape recorded.
